This is my 14th year teaching kindergarten in a small rural Catholic school. This website is a place to collect all of my favorite teaching resources. Since I am the only kindergarten teacher at my school, hopefully this will also become a place of collaboration.

The Daily Five Well, we are completing our fourth week of school and I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with the sisters' method of building stamina for small groups. My students are up to 10 minutes with 5 different activities going on and they are all on task and seem to be enjoying the activities. Next week we will be introducing the Writing element. I look forward to the freedom this will give my students in addition to our explicit writing instruction.
All of the adorable resources available on Teachers Pay Teachers has allowed me to present a well organized system for sharing the expectations. Some of the resources I have been able to edit to taylor make them to my needs. The biggest challenge has been not to "jump" on students who are off task. A pillow fight in the reading corner almost sent me over the edge one day. I did my best to regroup and review what went well and what didn't. This is the system for small groups that I have always been looking for. It has never made sense to me for teachers to be working like crazy to create and store a hundred unique centers that may be used for one week out of the school year. I am fortunate enough to have over 1,200 books in my classroom library and finally this year I will be using them! |
